Essie "Merino Cool" Nail Polish

Jule always makes me buy stuff :-))

I saw her swatches of Essie Merino Cool and knew I had to have it!

So I walked into Douglas on Saturday and got it. I also got Sew Psyched and Mink Muffs which I will swatch some other time.

The polish application went surprisingly smooth, which I didn't expect, because Essie polishes usually freak me out. I don't see why I should pay a lot of money for a polish that is streaky and sheer. But this one was great (and I didn't need 4 coats, only 2 :-)

I used:
Base coat: Nail Tek Foundation III
Two coats of Essie Merino Cool
Top coat: Seche Vite

Have a great day!

My new Jewelry Rack

So yes, I did go Christmas shopping last weekend and yes, I did also buy stuff for myself! :-)

I found this jewelry rack at Monsoon Accessorize, I have been on the hunt for something like this for ages, in every jewelry store I go to I always ask if they could sell me one of the racks too, but they never say yes!

So at Monssoon Accessorize on Saturday, of course, I asked the obligatory question and - surprisingly - the sales lady said I should check downstairs. So I went to the basement floor and found this:

I was super excited!
Here is the picture from their website:

It's called Metal Knob Jewellery Tree and the measurements are:
H35cm x W21.5cm
It cost 23,50 Euros.

While I was there, I also bought these earrings:

So successful Christmas shopping for myself!

China Glaze "Stroll" Nail Lacquer

Nails of the Day:
China Glaze Stroll

It's a sparkly ruby color with gold glitter and it was released with the Retro Diva Collection in 2009.

I used two coats to get an opaque layer, however, the first coat was very streaky!

Painting directions:
Base coat: Nail Tek Foundation III
Two coats of China Glaze Stroll

Top coat: Seche Vite

Have a great day!

MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass

My LOTD are MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipglass.

As you can see, the color settles in the creases of my lips, it's not that noticeable in real life though!

The gloss is pretty opaque and rather milky, which I love!

I tried the Cyndi lipgass at the counter but I did not like it at all! Just not my kind of red. I didn't like the Cindy lipstick on me either, so I passed that one on to my mom. It looked so pretty swatched on my hand, but there's something about the color that just doesn't work with my eye color, I guess (or skin tone? I don't know...).

Viva Glam Cindy Lipglass is Limited Edition... which makes me think... do I need a backup? :-)

MAC Most Popular Lipstick

MAC Most Popular Lipstick

is a dark raspberry shade that came out with the Hello Kitty Collection. It was later re-released with the Colour Craft Collection, it has a Lustre finish which means it's quite sheer.

Not much else to say, really. It's a nice color for fall/winter!

Alessandro "Streetwear" Nail Polish

I found this super pretty nail polish yesterday at Müller drugstore, it's by Alessandro International and the shade is 513 Streetwear.

The bottle is a miniature one (5 ml) and it's part of the current Dark Secret Winter Look Collection 2010.

Streetwear is a muted plum shade with a slight golden sheen (which unfortunately is not visible here in artificial lighting).

As for painting directions:
Base coat: Nail Tek Foundation III
Two coats of Streetwear
Top coat: Seche Vite

Take care!

MAC Cockney Lipstick

Hello Ladies,

this is MAC Cockney Lipstick, a sheer red for when I feel bold enough.

This is a permanent shade in the U.S. and I think it used to be permanent here in Europe too, but it has disappeared from the German MAC site. Still I was able to get it at the MAC store here in Vienna.

Anyway, should you not be able to get your hands on it because it has been discontinued in your country, MAC will launch it with the Stylishly Yours Collection soon! And be sure to check your stash, because it was previously launched with the Euristocrats II Collection back in 2009.

MAC describes the color as a sheer yellow red and I guess I'll go with that! The finish is Lustre, which is my favorite finish.

Have a great day!

Fake Lashes: Just for Fun

Always around Halloween the drugstores are crammed with fake lashes and that's always when I want to try them out. There are all sorts available, fun feather ones, glitter ones and ones with rhinestones.

I am usually not tempted by falsies, I do think they look great on other people (I mean look at hollyannaeree, she looks fabulous with her fake lashes on), but on me, I don't know, I feel a little over the top! I think that you can always tell when someone's wearing them, at least when you're standing next to them, and that's what puts me off. But anyway, I wanted to try them for once, for fun, because I felt like it.

I should stress that I am a complete greenhorn when it comes to putting fake lashes on, I am really bad, I mean REALLY BAD! It was the first time I had ever put any on and I probably made the typical mistakes of a beginner.

I thought I could do without a liner as a base for the lashes and just add the black afterwards in the places needed, but yeah, that didn't work out (I should stress that I am really bad with liquid liner as well, since I never use any).

Anyhow...
here is the final look. I made the picture black and white so that the mistakes are less obvious *g*
I kind of like how it turned out (the picture I mean, the makeup was a little messy).
The lashes are by Jofrika Cosmetics, a German brand specialized in carnival makeup.

Those were my thoughs of the day...
:-)
Take care!

MAC Satin Taupe and Rose Pigment

Rose Pigment was the first MAC pigment that I ever got, but I rarely use it.
So today I tried to come up with something.

I basically only used 3 colors, all MAC, all permanent:

Satin Taupe eyeshadow (all over lid and on lower lashline)
Rose Pigment (all over Satin Taupe and up above the crease)
Blanc Type (highlight)

I used Urban Decay Primer Potion underneath and 1 coat of Essence Multi Action Mascara on the top lashes only.

So so simple!

Take care!

MAC Viva Glam II

Remember the episode of "Gilmore Girls" where Lorelai gets Sookie ready for her first date with Jackson and yells: "Rory, Viva Glam!" And Rory comes running up the stairs with that familiar black tube in her hand? Well, THAT reference I got :-)

This is Viva Glam II, a pretty rosy beige with a Satin finish. It's a nude that I AM able to pull off - unlike "Creme d'Nude", which makes me look like Hui-Bu, the ghost, which is a reference that only German-speaking readers will be able to get, Gilmore-style :-)

Viva Glam II is a permanent lipstick at MAC.

MAC Style Snob and Mothbrown

MAC Style Snob

has been my favorite eyeshadow last year. It came out with the "Love That Look" Collection featuring starflash eyeshadows, i.e. shadows with that kind of finish (which reminds me: where were the starflash eyeshadows this year?? I would have loved to see a collection coming out!!).

Anyway, the color itself is a light brown/taupe color and I figured MAC Mothbrown would go well in the crease.

Products used:
Benefit F.Y.Eye Primer
MAC eyeshadows:
Style Snob (all over lid blended up above the crease and on lower lashline)
Mothbrown (outer lid and crease)
Manila Paper (highlight)
MSF Natural in Medium Plus (to blend out crease)
Essence Multi Action Mascara (on upper lashes only)
b.pretty transparent eyebrow gel

Placement of shades:

Take care!

MAC Violetta Lipstick and She-Zam Dazzleglass

MAC Violetta Lipstick
has been one of my favorite lipsticks lately. Not because I love really bright colors on my lips, because I don't, but because it's so easy to tone down.

I will say that ever since getting glasses, like a month ago, I am wearing brighter colors on my lips. My glasses have thick black rims and I feel like I have to balance out their strictness by a stronger red or pink on my lips. Otherwise it's just the glasses that you see and they are very in your face!

Well anywayyyy...
Violetta would be far too bright even with my glasses on, so here is what I have been doing:
Lip balm, then Violetta, then blot and finally She-Zam Dazzleglass, which came out with MAC's Christmas Collection 2009.

It makes a wearable, dazzling pink.

Violetta is a MAC PRO Color, it also came out with the MAC Venomous Villains Collection earlier this year, which is where I got mine. It has an Amplified finish.

To cut it short:
This is MAC Lipstick Violetta with MAC Dazzleglass She-Zam!

Have a great day!

OPI DS "Extravagance" Nail Polish

Hi everyone!

I am getting in a Christmassy mood and I felt like a festive nail color today.

This is OPI`s DS Extravagance, DS standing for Designer Series.

It's a pretty burgundy color. Since I never know the exact definition of "burgundy", I looked it up in Wikipedia: "Burgundy is a shade of purplish red associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name". Yap, that just about fits this color!

Application was smooth, I used two coats. This is one of the OPI shades with the wide brush!

I used:
Base coat: Nail Tek Foundation III
Two coats of OPI polish
Top coat: Seche Vite

Here is how the polish looks in a close-up:

Oh, and this is not a new shade, it's back from 2008, I think!

Have a great day!

MAC Mellow Mood Lipstick

Hi Ladies,
I got this lipstick from the MAC Tartan Tale Collection, my verdict:
Meh...

It's called Mellow Mood and it's a Lustre. It first came out with the Electroflash Collection in 2008 and it just got repromoted in one of the lip bags. Colorwise it's a soft pink with a subtle gold sheen.

I envisioned it as a "my lips but better" lipstick, like "Hug Me" from the permanent line, but it's almost too sheer for that. It is pretty, but it barely shows up.

It was part of the "Vain & Glorious" Lip Bag and I got Baby Sparks Dazzleglass and In Synch Lip Pencil with it, and the bag, of course.

I like all three products, I have been wanting Baby Sparks Dazzleglass for a while, but I guess I could have done without them.

So my office look today is pretty boring, nude eyes and nude lips.
*yawn*

But I have green nail polish on, which my boss even asked me about this morning. He stopped talking to me when he saw my nails and I had to explain why I'm wearing green nail polish (it was of course to match my green ring, which I told him and he burst out laughing...)
Men!

Take care!

My Photos in Exhibition in Vienna

This is completely non-makeup related, but I am so excited I thought I'd share anyways!

It's
MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY
here in Vienna.
Vienna is part of the European Month of Photography, together with the partner cities Berlin, Bratislava, Luxemburg, Moscow, Rome and Paris.

There are tons of photo exhibitions every day, and two of my pictures, maybe three, we'll see, will be shown at the exhibition of the photo school I graduated from a couple of years ago.

Oh, and I am officially called an artist now!! :-))
(Which means I will wear a scarf and tousled hair tonight, like all respectable artists do!) :-))
(I am also considering behaving a little bit like Russel Brand... just for that extra little bit of "je ne sais quoi"...)

Tonight is the opening and I am so excited!
These two photos will be exhibited:

Marble Stairway, 2006

Tiles, 2006

There might be a third one, but I will only find out tonight when I go there:

Fury, 2006

As you can see, they were all shot four years ago, when I was really photographing a lot. Now I am so busy with my job and my other hobbies, that I don't ever photograph anymore.

Anyway, here is the event info (click to enlarge):

All the best
